Love it! Others have complained about the pictures and no names for the stitch patterns. While this is true and the names bother me, I've got to say this is the most complete set of stitch patterns I've ever seen! The charts are a great addition, and the instructions are good. I am so happy I went ahead and bought this book. Right now I'm going through the applicable stitches (ones with a foundation repeat of 10 or less) and making swatches. I've made them in cotton yarn so they can be used for dish clothes. :) There are several stitches in this book that I've not seen elsewhere. Does this help with my crochet designing? You bet!Would I buy this again? In a heart beat! Maybe someday this author will come out with a "complete" book of edgings. :)If it weren't for the pictures, I'd love this book! I've recently gotten heavily into crochet, after being a knitter for years. I was dying for a book of patterns that would give me lots of scope for trying new crochet fabrics, and this book certainly fits that bill. With 500 different patterns, it could keep you crocheting for years without repeating. I've tried about 20 patterns so far, and all worked well, without the mistakes you sadly too often find in books like this.If it weren't for the pictures, this would be a 5 star book for sure. However, I REALLY don't like the pictures! They are done in a yarn that seems like an incredibly bad choice. There are so many yarns that would show the patterns crisply, but this yarn is kind of fuzzy. To add to that, the color choices for both the yarn and the backgrounds seemed designed not to show off the crocheting, but to muddy it. So, so many of the patterns look the same---like a muddled mess of yarn with just a hint of organization. When I actually crochet up them, they make some very pretty things, and I have to admit it's almost fun that way, like a surprise only hinted at by the picture, but I don't think everyone would enjoy having to actually try every pattern to see what it looks like. This is more just me being picky, but I'd also love it if the patterns had names. Even if they didn't come with names, if I were the author, I'd enjoy thinking up some, and naming patterns to me makes them much easier to remember and to picture.None of what I mentioned should discourage anyone from buying this book if they just want to have a whole, whole bunch of crochet patterns, with accurate patterns. I know I'll use this book a lot, and overall, I'm glad I got it. But I hope some day it's redone with better pictures. I'd buy that new edition for sure!Disappointing I've had this book on my wish list forever, so I was really excited when I could afford to order it. I received it a couple of days ago and, while it has lots of crochet stitch pictures and instructions, they're mostly of the lacy variety. There are a few (very few) of what I call "fabric" stitches--stitches that are variations of single, double and treble crochet that make a dense pattern. This was my first disappointment. My second disappointment was the book doesn't list the names for the various stitches. Part of what I love about the needle arts is the history and the names for stitches that have been in use for decades. For instance, Crow's Foot Lattice, Arcade, Moss, Crunch, Bow Tie. I don't understand how the author could do all of the research that went into the book without making note of the name of the stitch. I know she didn't invent these stitches and it wouldn't have been difficult to note the name of the stitch. I'm an intermediate to expert crocheter, and will use some of the patterns in the book. I'll just keep looking for a stitch encyclopedia that includes the names of the stitches.
