I have been using Saxon mathematics for 15 years, first as a 5th-12th grade student and more recently as a tutor. This program is excellent and like one of the other reviewers I can agree that even my "average" Saxon students have significantly better mathematics skills that those students using other programs.

I began using Saxon math in 5th grade. Prior to that I used a typical "learn and drill" method. A new concept was taught and drilled for 20+ problems and then the instruction moved on to another topic. By the time I reached an end of unit exam I had forgotten the early material.

Then in 5th grade we changed curriculums. I didn’t become a "math lover" overnight. In fact, although my math skills improved, I adamently hated math all the way through junior high. Then I began algebra. By the end of Saxon’s algebra 2 textbook I loved algebra and was making high A’s in my homework.

A couple of years after highschool I was invited to begin tutoring math at a private school. At this point I reviewed my Saxon Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 eventually going on to study Advanced Mathematics for the fun of it. I would spend 2-3 hours a day studying math and loving every minute of it.

This independant study was 2 1/2 years ago. I recently decided to attend college as a math major. Last semester I passed Calculus I near or at the top of all the Cal I classes combined. My Saxon skills gave me the tools I needed to study well and grasp rather abstract concepts.

The one area that has concerned me is trigonometry.
When you read though these reviews you need to be aware that there are two different camps in Math Education: Constructivist (NCTM) and Traditional. Constructists focus on application (pragmatics), so spend a lot of time on "real world" projects, communicating about math, and what they call "problem solving" which really means just doing real world problems. Traditionalists take a broader and deep approach and try to cover semantics (the meaning of math), syntax (how you write and rewrite math problems), AND pragmatics. If you look at a book from the Constructivist camp you will see lots of colors and topics and it will jump around without making many meaningful connections. Open this book and you will see no colors and each problem set is tightly integrated with the last. This is by design! The author purposely select problems that students typically make mistakes on so they can learn to avoid making them in the future. This is clearly explicitly stated in the Preface! I pity the poor student who tries to jump into the middle of this book, because the author steps you up through increIDgly difficult problems of the same type so that you can learn how to do hard problems (that most students can’t solve and won’t learn how to solve using the Constructivist approach).

I’ve been using this book for three years and I am very happy with the level of knowledge of my 6th and 8th grade sons. The book intentionally introduces them to problems they will encounter in physical science, chemistry, and physics. However, book is primarily focused on the syntax of math and does not spend much time on semantics, pragmatics, or aesthetics, but without its foundation working with math will always be a challenge.

Paperback: 192 pagesPublisher: BARBOUR BOOKS; Gld edition (April 1, 2015)Language: EnglishISBN-10: 1630588563ISBN-13: 978-1630588564 Product Dimensions: 4.2 x 0.5 x 6 inches Shipping Weight: 1.6 ounces (View shipping rates and policies) Best Sellers Rank: #22,578 in Books (See Top 100 in Books) #6 in Books > Christian Books & Bibles > Children’s & Teens > Teens > Devotionals & Prayer #31 in Books > Teens > Religion & Spirituality #5572 in Books > Religion & Spirituality

I bought this for my ninth grade daughter and had low expectations for the price. I was pleasantly suprised when it arrived! I loved the loving and positive messages throughout the book, thought they did a great job covering diverse topics and will buy from this publisher in the future. However my daughter thinks it’s slightly too young for her, but this could be because like most teens she wants to be older than she is. Overall I am very happy and felt it was more than worth the money.

I got this for my teen daughter and was very happy to see her reading it before bed. Happy momma

Perfect little purse size devotional book for teen girls. I can’t wait to give these as gifts!

The Ultimate Maze Book – September 1, 2005 PDF

The Ultimate Maze Book (Dover Children’s Activity Books) Paperback – September 1, 2005

After the "maze craze" began in the 1970s (at least, when printed mazes became available in books and magazines in forms that were challenging enough for adult solvers), the standard maze forms were those that could be seen in the works of Vladimir Koziakin, in which a line is drawn between "walls" from one point to another.

These standard forms were quickly transcended by the groundbreaking works (in both a figurative and a literal sense, since he physically dug large mazes in the ground as well as drawing and painting them) of Greg Bright. Greg Bright’s published works made widely available such innovations as "mutually accessible centers" (the spirals from which numerous paths intersect at their centers), geometric matrices, the "weave" in which illustrated paths are seen to cross over and under each other, mazes that contained no "dead-ends" (the difficulty arising from paths that keep looping back to ones already visited, rather than simply coming to a stop), and mazes that passed through pages and over the edges of pages (The Hole Maze Book).

Also in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the works of Larry Evans and Bernard Myers brought lavishly illustrated 3-D perspective mazes into popular books (Supermazes No. 1, Three-Dimensional Mazes) that expanded the standard maze into the forms of elaborate architectural structures, cities, grids, etc. in which rooms, bridges, etc. formed the pathways and in which these could cross over and under each other. Since that time, maze innovations have primarily occurred in the realm of video games. (At least one exception, by Christopher Manson, did not take the form of a standard illustrated maze, and thus stands in near-isolation.

When this book showed up on my doorstep I promised myself (while happy dancing, it should be noted) that I would read slowly and stretch this out to savor it. Who the hell was I kidding?! I was doomed as soon as I opened the cover. This book kept me up ALL night! I didn’t just “enjoy” this book I loved every single minute of the ride. It’s been a few days now and I’m still having trouble writing a review that doesn’t solely consist of omg squee omg aghhh *random animal noises* (don’t even ask).

Susan Ee somehow manages to take everything I love most in books and blend it all together perfectly. Intense action, creeptastic horror, witty banter, sexual tension off the charts, complex characters- the gang’s all here!

Penryn has got to be one of my favorite YA heroines of all time. She’s bold, courageous, stubborn, selfless, smart and so strong yet despite all the hardship she has been through she’s still very empathetic to others. Even when she does stupid things she’s smart enough to realize this is a bad idea but her conscience won’t allow her to just walk away. The brief moments she gets to expose her vulnerability and insecurity are so touching. It is a nice reminder that beneath her strength and bravado this is still a young, inexperienced girl. Her stammering during the few romantic scenes made me laugh out loud and cringe for her at the same time.

Her family makes me think my family isn’t weird after all. As creepy as her mom was in the last book she kicks it up a notch this time around. I think I’m more terrified of her holding a lipstick now than the cattle prod she is so fond of. There’s a scene between her and Pen that made my heart hurt.
To be honest, I wasn’t sure how World After would turn out because most sequels don’t live up to their predecessor. The good news is that World After is even better than Angelfall, a feat that I didn’t even think was possible. World After retains the humor, kick-ass action scenes, fast-paced plot and absolutely amazing characters that readers came to love in Angelfall. World After easily is one of my favorite books of 2013.

Penryn and Raffe are definitely one of my favorite literary couples, they are honestly perfect for each other. They both complement each other in fierceness and wit making their romance something to look forward to. The romance between Raffe and Penryn is minimal as there is more of a focus on Penryn’s journey to find Paige and Raffe’s journey to reclaim his wings. The few romantic interactions between Penryn and Raffe are absolutely perfect.

World After is filled with non-stop fast-paced action scenes where Penryn really kicks butt. Sorry Katniss and Tris, but Penryn is easily my favorite heroine ever with her epic fighting skills. Susan Ee really knows how to write immersive action scenes that are extremely easy to visualize. I physically couldn’t stop reading because I was so engrossed in the action scenes.

Characterwise, we see a lot more of Penryn’s sister and mother which was a huge plus on Ee’s part. Paige is a character that I love, but at the same time, I’m absolutely terrified whenever she made an appearance. All of Ee’s characters continued to surprise me again and again, especially Penryn’s mother. I really haven’t read many books in which a character is completely mentally unstable and it was extremely interesting to see Ee develop such a character.
– "The world going crazy doesn’t mean your mother isn’t still crazy too."

I thought Angelfall was a wild ride but World After kicked crazy up a notch. Susan Ee has really impressed me with her second book in the Penryn and The End of Days series. After the first book I really wanted some insight into the Angels and Raffe’s Past, I also wanted to know more about the creepy Frankenstein monsters that were at the Aerie, Penryn’s crazy mom and Paige poor little Paige. Well Susan Ee found a great way to give us insight into most of these things and just when I thought she couldn’t horrify me any more Ms. Ee pushed the bar just one step farther.

Penryn’s mom is still crazy, I mean sometimes she seems like maybe she is the only one that is on top of what is truly happening but she is still nuts and I love every second of it.

– "Of course your fine." She keeps walking. "You’re the devils bride and these are his creatures." – Penryn’s Mom

In Penryn’s mom’s defense the tableau at the end of Angelfall did make Raffe look like the Devil. But, you still have to be crazy to come up with an idea like that. It is safe to say that the Young family wasn’t exactly popular in the new resistance camp with a mom speaking in tongues, resurrected girl and a stitched up child with super strength and razor teeth.

DeeDum were hilarious and up to their shenanigans again at the new resistance camp. They have some great one liners and seems to always be in the know, but that is to be expected of the great spymasters. Where ever they go trouble will abound but they seem to always be able to help Penryn out in some way.
