Gr 9 Up-Shirin, a headscarf-wearing, break-dancing, foul-mouthed 16-year-old, refuses to be constrained by anyone's expectations. Hardened by the bigotry she has endured in the year since the 9/11 terror attacks, she's withdrawn, counting down the days until graduation, when she can escape her narrow-minded suburban enclave. When Shirin is forced to become lab partners with Ocean, a popular basketball player with whom she seemingly has nothing in common, she learns to embrace acceptance where she least expects it. This evocative semiautobiographical novel challenges assumptions about why some Muslim women cover their hair and conveys the innocence and passion of first love.α(c) Copyright 2011. No redistribution permitted. “A raw yet astoundingly elegant examination of identity, loneliness and family that is unflinching in its honesty and power. Tahereh Mafi holds nothing back—and the reader is better for it.” (Sabaa Tahir, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Ember in the Ashes series)“A Very Large Expanse of Sea reads like a beautiful heart—one that shines and aches and yearns, and above all else, one that loves fiercely against all odds. A transcendent story about truth, love, and finding joy.” (Marie Lu, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Warcross series)“This is a gorgeous book. It’s tender and fierce, beautiful even as it depicts some ugly truths. Tahereh’s prose is passionate and honest, unsentimental and big-hearted. The very best books move you to reconsider the world around you, and this is one of those. I truly loved it.” (Nicola Yoon, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Everything, Everything and The Sun is Also a Star)“Tahereh Mafi, known for her fantasy and dystopian novels, proves a master of the contemporary realistic novel. Even as the fraught love story drives the short chapters to a surprising close, Mafi weaves in moments of camaraderie and joy.” (Washington Post)★“Mafi tackles the life of an American Muslim teenager in the wake of 9/11 in this visceral, honest novel. Shirin’s captivating story opens a window onto a different narrative than the one typically dominating airwaves after 9/11. Rich characters, incisive writing, and a powerful story will thrill readers.” (Booklist (starred review))★ “[Mafi’s] writing is nuanced and smart. Shirin and Ocean’s interactions are palpable, and the discussions and exploration of what it means to be a Muslim in politically charged America will resonate with many teens and will be enlightening for some.” (School Library Journal (starred review))★ “Mafi gives vivid voice to an underrepresented audience in this story. The teens’ rich personalities, desires, powerful emotions and struggles come together to form a memorable work. An outstanding contemporary novel, A Very Large Expanse of Sea is a realistic love story that provides a much-needed perspective.” (Shelf Awareness (starred review))“A contemporary love story with a heartbreakingly realistic portrait of one post-9/11 Muslim life. Mafi openly addresses many common misconceptions about Islam and what it means to be a woman of color in the face of racism, showing how differences can be applauded, not feared.” (Publishers Weekly)“Holds a mirror up to the reality of religious bigotry. A portrait of a strong Muslim teen girl who defies stereotypes. Shirin insists on her right to approach life on her own clear-eyed terms, granting compassion to the deserving and an education to those who need it.” (Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books)“Cerebral, impassioned, and zeitgeisty... Mafi’s sincerity stands out in full force in her craftsmanship. A Very Large Expanse of Sea is timeless in its themes and will continue to affect readers, months after they’ve closed the book.” (NPR)

Longlisted for the National Book Award for Young People's Literature!

From the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Shatter Me series comes a powerful, heartrending contemporary novel about fear, first love, and the devastating impact of prejudice.

It’s 2002, a year after 9/11. It’s an extremely turbulent time politically, but especially so for someone like Shirin, a sixteen-year-old Muslim girl who’s tired of being stereotyped.

Shirin is never surprised by how horrible people can be. She’s tired of the rude stares, the degrading comments—even the physical violence—she endures as a result of her race, her religion, and the hijab she wears every day. So she’s built up protective walls and refuses to let anyone close enough to hurt her. Instead, she drowns her frustrations in music and spends her afternoons break-dancing with her brother.

But then she meets Ocean James. He’s the first person in forever who really seems to want to get to know Shirin. It terrifies her—they seem to come from two irreconcilable worlds—and Shirin has had her guard up for so long that she’s not sure she’ll ever be able to let it down.

A Very Large Expanse of Sea Book Review A Very Large Expanse of Sea was a novel I picked up after reading the Shatter Me series. After reading the amazing series, I decided to read more of Tahereh Mafi’s work, and this novel did not disappoint. It is such a powerful story, one that opens up to the public to reveal the story of a struggling teen during turbulent times. The struggles this novel portrays captivates its readers and brings awareness to the prejudices a young, innocent girl received as a result of her culture and religion. The story portrays the struggles Shirin ensures and how prejudice takes a hold of her life for so long that she closes herself off to the world. The story takes the reader on a journey of discovery and is full of emotion, anger, sadness, and raw insight into the life of a young Muslim girl who struggles to find herself in a world that sees her in such a negative manner. Shirin manages to find passion and a love for breakdancing and music and as a result discovers who she is as a result.A Very Large Expanse of Sea is a beautifully written story. I enjoyed it and found it to be extremely enlightening. After reading so much science fiction and fantasy, it was so different to pick up a novel that places me back into the ‘real world’ and make me aware of the events that inspired so many authors. This novel is Tahereh Mafi’s testimony of hard times and how she managed to find love and happiness in music and breakdancing.Tahereh Mafi comes thru with an important but wholesome contemporary I was nervous starting this book because the first 25% of this lays a lot of groundwork and there’s a lot of telling instead of showing. Despite this, I was highlighting paragraphs basically every other page because Shirin’s experiences and anger born from them was so powerful. This book cuts the crap from Shatter Me & Furthermore’s writing style and says it how it is. Gone are the flowery paragraphs of images and metaphors, but they’re replaced by hard-hitting and steel edged descriptions of Shirin’s real life. It’s different and it’s jarring, but it fits the story. I’m not even exaggerating when I say that probably 50% of this ebook’s text is highlighted. From powerful moments to funny, relatable moments to important moments to cute moments, I was glued onto the pages.I LOVED Shirin’s relationship with her brother, Navid. Their bond was endearing and I liked how he was her mentor and cheered her up and stuck up for her and was the reason she got into break dancing. He was definitely my favorite side character!I can’t put my finger on it, but this book just.... works. It was fast to read. I haven’t lived a life anywhere near Shirin’s, but being in her head made sense. I understood her feelings. I understood her fears. I sympathized with her so much that my heart hurt. I was rooting for her the entire book, and her transformation and self-actualization was such an engrossing journey. The reason why I took a star off is because the relationship is melodramatic to the point of being cliche. Shirin deals with racism and xenophobia and bigotry, and Ocean deals with..... not wanting to be on the basketball team. It felt like a flat plot point that’s a totally overused trope. The stakes were so low because it felt too cliché and the conflict of this book reminded me of High School Musical. I don't want this to look like I'm minimizing the actual events because clearly Shirin prevailing and asserting her worth in that situation was still such a powerful read, but I wish Ocean's conflict that drives the emotional climax of this book could have been designed to be less.... generic.Nevertheless, this is a once in a lifetime book. Whatever small writing or plot issues I have with it makes up in the fact that I haven’t read anything as important and eye-opening as this before. Its unparalleled honesty had me throwing my fist in the hair during some scenes and wiping away tears in others. It’s a stand-out book of 2018, and definitely an exception you should make if you aren't a fan of YA contemporary. Please please please support this book and the author behind it because she and the book deserve the world. An emotionally raw account of a Muslim girl after 9/11 This book is about a Muslim girl named Shirin who has recently moved to a new highschool. As a Muslim girl who wears a hijab, she is ridiculed daily as being a terrorist. Just a year prior, 9/11 took place and she was continuing to deal with the backlash and the consistent prejudice that many muslims experienced during that time.Shirin meets a boy named Ocean who finds her fascinating and decides to take his time getting to know her. After isolating herself she opens herself up to him. Shirin and Ocean have this deeply raw and emotional relationship and I'm completely obsessed with it. Whats more is that he was a really likable character throughout. This book spares no punches as Shirin is a raw and angry teen just trying to survive in a hostile highschool setting. I felt so much for her and this was framed perfectly. You didn't just learn this character, you learned all the things in her environment that made her who she was. This book added so much to the facts of prejudice of muslims after 9/11. This gave, what felt like, an emotional first hand account of trying to navigate high school as a Muslim after the destruction of the two towers. I felt like Shirin was someone I could know in real life and interact with. She jumped out of the book and became more than just a character. This book also gives a strong nostalgic nod to this era in her musical play list. With songs like Whenever, Wherever by Shakira and Pardon Me by Incubus. It really set the tone for the time the book took place in and was a nice touch.I can't help but sing praises for this and without hesitation I gave this a 5/5 stars.

Title: The First Conspiracy Pdf The Secret Plot to Kill George Washington
Author: Brad Meltzer
Published Date: 2019-01-08
Page: 432

New York Times bestseller “A breezily entertaining account. For Meltzer…this foray into nonfiction has a decidedly melodramatic flavor, rushing along in the present tense from one breathless, cliffhanging chapter to the next.” ―USA Today“The author extract what they can out of the historical record to tell a colorful story giving the reader a sense of Revolutionary-era Manhattan. The writing is punchy and the chapters are short.” ―Associated Press"[Meltzer and Mensch] bring a propulsive energy to the narrative―it can be difficult to create tension and suspense in a nonfiction book where the reader already knows how the story ends, but the authors do a great job keeping the reader turning the pages.... Nothing about the book is phoned in; the amount of research behind it is genuinely remarkable. The First Conspiracy is an excellent book, enthralling and beyond fascinating, and it's sure to delight both fans of thrillers and American history." ―NPR “Meltzer and Mensch have taken an obscure chapter of U.S. history and retold it as a thriller…they aim to make the past come alive for a modern audience, but readers who enter this literary wayback machine are in for a bumpy ride.” ―Newsday"Readers who like their histories full of twists, turns, and cliff-hangers will enjoy this romp through the Revolution." ―Booklist“In brisk, tense chapters, Meltzer [and] Mensch relate a tale of spies and treason, conspiracy and counterintelligence at the start of the colonists' war against Britain.... A lively political thriller.” ―Kirkus Reviews "This absolutely fascinating book brings to light an enthralling, deliberately hidden episode in American history, chronicling the machinations leading to war and the remarkable character of Washington himself. This is American history at its finest, a gripping story of spies, killers, counterfeiters, traitors―and a mysterious prostitute who may or may not have even existed. Anyone with an interest in American history will love this book." ―Douglas Preston, #1 bestselling author of The Lost City of the Monkey God“You need to read this book―the patriotic and daring untold story about George Washington and the real-life traitors who secretly tried to take him out. Just wait until you see how General Washington punishes those who cross him. Here’s why Brad Meltzer is America’s historian. Americans need to hear this incredible story.” ―Brian Kilmeade, cohost of Fox & Friends and New York Times bestselling author of Andrew Jackson and the Miracle of New Orleans, George Washington's Secret Six, and Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pilots “History and mystery combine in this taut true-life thriller. Meltzer and Mensch write a page-turner with rich characters and compelling details that just so happens to be part of the real story about George Washington and a conspiracy against him. A joy to read!” ―Jake Tapper, CNN Anchor and bestselling author of The Hellfire Club"The First Conspiracy is a true mystery story that very few Americans know, written with a voice that beckons to be heard.” ―Joseph J. Ellis, author of the forthcoming American Dialogue: The Founding Fathers and Us“If you thought you knew everything about the American Revolution, here’s dispositive proof that you’ve been wrong. Brad Meltzer and Josh Mensch have given us a powerful account of a conspiracy to assassinate George Washington on the eve of all-out war―a fascinating tale of spies and intrigue, of near-misses, and what-ifs. Read it!” ―Jon Meacham, author The Soul of America: The Battle for our Better Angels, Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power, and American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House"This story of skullduggery, bribery, espionage, and treason sheds new light on the beginnings of the American Revolution. It also highlights the importance of intelligence and counterintelligence in waging war, as the Patriots exposed and forestalled the plot and caused Washington to create his own highly successful intelligence service." ―James M. McPherson, author of The War That Forged a Nation and Pulitzer Prize-winner Battle Cry of FreedomBRAD MELTZER is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Escape Artist, The Inner Circle, and many other bestselling thrillers, as well as the "Ordinary People Change the World" series. He is also the host of the History Channel TV shows Brad Meltzer’s Decoded and Brad Meltzer’s Lost History, which he used to help find the missing 9/11 flag that the firefighters raised at Ground Zero.JOSH MENSCH is a writer and documentary television producer with a focus on American history and culture. He has produced, written and directed series for PBS, National Geographic, A&E, Discovery and other networks. He was also the showrunner on Brad Meltzer’s Lost History for the History Channel. Josh is a graduate of Princeton and Columbia Universities, and lives in Brooklyn with his family.

Taking place during the most critical period of our nation’s birth, The First Conspiracy tells a remarkable and previously untold piece of American history that not only reveals George Washington’s character, but also illuminates the origins of America’s counterintelligence movement that led to the modern day CIA.

In 1776, an elite group of soldiers were handpicked to serve as George Washington’s bodyguards. Washington trusted them; relied on them. But unbeknownst to Washington, some of them were part of a treasonous plan. In the months leading up to the Revolutionary War, these traitorous soldiers, along with the Governor of New York, William Tryon, and Mayor David Mathews, launched a deadly plot against the most important member of the military: George Washington himself.

This is the story of the secret plot and how it was revealed. It is a story of leaders, liars, counterfeiters, and jailhouse confessors. It also shows just how hard the battle was for George Washington and how close America was to losing the Revolutionary War.

In this historical page-turner, New York Times bestselling author Brad Meltzer teams up with American history writer and documentary television producer, Josh Mensch to unravel the shocking true story behind what has previously been a footnote in the pages of history. Drawing on extensive research, Meltzer and Mensch capture in riveting detail how George Washington not only defeated the most powerful military force in the world, but also uncovered the secret plot against him in the tumultuous days leading up to July 4, 1776.

Praise for The First Conspiracy:

"This is American history at its finest, a gripping story of spies, killers, counterfeiters, traitors?and a mysterious prostitute who may or may not have even existed. Anyone with an interest in American history will love this book." ―Douglas Preston, #1 bestselling author of The Lost City of the Monkey God

“A wonderful book about leadership?and it shows why George Washington and his moral lessons are just as vital today. What a book. You’ll love it.” ―President George H.W. Bush

“This is an important book: a fascinating largely unknown chapter of our hazardous beginning, a reminder of why counterintelligence matters, and a great read.” ―President Bill Clinton

Misleading Title In the US we are subject to sensational, yet dubious, newspaper headlines & web postings. Now we can add questionable “history books”The Secret Plot to Kill George Washington is based on nothing more than rumor & conjecture. The author provides only a handful of source facts and turns it into 410 pages of speculation and repetitive prose. In the books “Author’s Notes” Brad Meltzer writes about reaching out to historian Joseph Ellis who tells him that this topic will “…always be elusive” & Meltzer states “He was right”. Then the question begs, why try to write a book? What Might Have Happened if George Washington was MURDERED in 1776? One can be forgiven for speculating as to what might have happened to our thirteen colonies if George Washington had been murdered in the conspiracy detailed in this excellent work by Brad Meltzer. What might be even more salient, however, is what America did become because the great man was NOT murdered. Much of what America has become is owed to those who stopped the plot to assassinate the father of our country.Imagine yourself as a writer. Now, assume you have stumbled across some disjointed information that indicates an attempt to kidnap or murder the one key figure in America's quest for self-governance. What would you do?Brad Meltzer probably has a little more backbone than most of us. As for myself, I might have entertained the thought to try writing a novel on the topic. With novels, people are more forgiving than with nonfiction. But, honestly, I probably would have given up after fifty or so pages. So, I bought Meltzer's book, including the Audible Whispersync edition so I could listen to it when actually reading was not possible. How was it?Excellent. From the get-go I was fascinated by the prospect, if not so thrilled with some of the early statements. What I mean is that, early on, (for just one example), Meltzer states:'...This small, inexperienced, poorly equipped group of soldiers needs to stand up to what is probably the biggest and most powerful military force in the world. By any normal measure, they don’t stand a chance—and Washington knows this, just as he knows that with every decision he makes, thousands of young soldiers’ lives could be lost...'Meltzer, Brad. The First Conspiracy (pp. 1-2). Flatiron Books. Kindle Edition. So, why does this bug me? Perspective. Through eight years of conflict, the total number who were killed by the fighting was 8,000. Yes, that is thousands, but is far less than one might suppose. When Meltzer stresses thousand of young soldiers lives could be lost, I imagine, readers are likely to conjure up far larger numbers in their minds.Yes, I know I am being a bit picky. I am merely trying to show how this otherwise terrific history falls short of being a great story for us today. The writing and editing are good.BOTTOM LINEI highly recommend this book for anyone interested in American colonial history. Remember to get the Audible edition and listen to it with you kids and/or parents.Four stars out of five.History presented as a thriller I received an Advance Reading Copy of The First Conspiracy by Brad Meltzer and John Mensch from the publisher (Flatiron Books) in exchange for an honest review. The First Conspiracy is scheduled for release on January 8, 2019.The First Conspiracy is not a novel, it is a glimpse into a piece of history. We are dropped into the months leading up to the Declaration of Independence and the war that it launches. The focus of this history is a group of men who are secretly associated with the British. This group of men has a plan. They are out to get George Washington. This story is told in third person, which makes sense for a history. The story jumps around in both place and time, following different people and their actions. Given that we are piecing together a conspiracy, the jumping made sense. What made less sense to me was the tense Meltzer chose to write in. This history is written in present tense. I think his goal was to make us feel a sense of urgency, make us feel tension and anxiety over how things were going to turn out. This did not work for me. Since this is a history, I knew from the beginning that the attempt to assassinate Washington was going to be unsuccessful. The choice of present tense just felt awkward. The down side to the jumping in time and space was that we never get a chance to really attach to any of the characters. While we see what individuals are doing, we don’t get close to any of them. This made it difficult for me to sink into the story. I felt very distant from the action and the people involved.I also struggled with the writing style Meltzer used. Meltzer is a bestselling author, who typically writes thrillers. I could see this in his approach to this history. His chapter lead ins and endings had the feel of what I see in thrillers. Again, this felt out of place to me. It felt as if he were trying to force a sense of excitement into the story, rather than mining and developing the intrigue that was inherent to this conspiracy tale. While this was an interesting story about a piece of history that I honestly did not know about, I did not love this book. I wanted to be immersed in this conspiracy, immersed in the plotting and intrigue. Instead, I was overly aware of the author and his stylistic devices.

The Complete Book of Crochet Stitch Designs Free Pdf

ISBN: 1454701374
Title: The Complete Book of Crochet Stitch Designs Pdf 500 Classic & Original Patterns (Complete Crochet Designs)
Author: Linda Schäpper
Published Date: 2011
Page: 352
With 500 designs that range from classic patterns to originals you'll find nowhere else, this book is considered a benchmark needlework reference!

This stitchwork classic features 500 designs ranging from traditional patterns to original motifs—and crocheters of all levels will find essential information and inspiration on every page. Each design features a close-up color photograph, a diagram showing each stitch and its placement, and easy-to-follow instructions. A pictorial index displays thumbnail views of the designs for easy selection and navigation. No wonder The Complete Book of Crochet Stitch Designs is the must-have reference for crocheters!

Love it! Others have complained about the pictures and no names for the stitch patterns. While this is true and the names bother me, I've got to say this is the most complete set of stitch patterns I've ever seen! The charts are a great addition, and the instructions are good. I am so happy I went ahead and bought this book. Right now I'm going through the applicable stitches (ones with a foundation repeat of 10 or less) and making swatches. I've made them in cotton yarn so they can be used for dish clothes. :) There are several stitches in this book that I've not seen elsewhere. Does this help with my crochet designing? You bet!Would I buy this again? In a heart beat! Maybe someday this author will come out with a "complete" book of edgings. :)If it weren't for the pictures, I'd love this book! I've recently gotten heavily into crochet, after being a knitter for years. I was dying for a book of patterns that would give me lots of scope for trying new crochet fabrics, and this book certainly fits that bill. With 500 different patterns, it could keep you crocheting for years without repeating. I've tried about 20 patterns so far, and all worked well, without the mistakes you sadly too often find in books like this.If it weren't for the pictures, this would be a 5 star book for sure. However, I REALLY don't like the pictures! They are done in a yarn that seems like an incredibly bad choice. There are so many yarns that would show the patterns crisply, but this yarn is kind of fuzzy. To add to that, the color choices for both the yarn and the backgrounds seemed designed not to show off the crocheting, but to muddy it. So, so many of the patterns look the same---like a muddled mess of yarn with just a hint of organization. When I actually crochet up them, they make some very pretty things, and I have to admit it's almost fun that way, like a surprise only hinted at by the picture, but I don't think everyone would enjoy having to actually try every pattern to see what it looks like. This is more just me being picky, but I'd also love it if the patterns had names. Even if they didn't come with names, if I were the author, I'd enjoy thinking up some, and naming patterns to me makes them much easier to remember and to picture.None of what I mentioned should discourage anyone from buying this book if they just want to have a whole, whole bunch of crochet patterns, with accurate patterns. I know I'll use this book a lot, and overall, I'm glad I got it. But I hope some day it's redone with better pictures. I'd buy that new edition for sure!Disappointing I've had this book on my wish list forever, so I was really excited when I could afford to order it. I received it a couple of days ago and, while it has lots of crochet stitch pictures and instructions, they're mostly of the lacy variety. There are a few (very few) of what I call "fabric" stitches--stitches that are variations of single, double and treble crochet that make a dense pattern. This was my first disappointment. My second disappointment was the book doesn't list the names for the various stitches. Part of what I love about the needle arts is the history and the names for stitches that have been in use for decades. For instance, Crow's Foot Lattice, Arcade, Moss, Crunch, Bow Tie. I don't understand how the author could do all of the research that went into the book without making note of the name of the stitch. I know she didn't invent these stitches and it wouldn't have been difficult to note the name of the stitch. I'm an intermediate to expert crocheter, and will use some of the patterns in the book. I'll just keep looking for a stitch encyclopedia that includes the names of the stitches.

Study and you'll pass - skim and you won't To get straight to the point - I passed on 10 April. Having said that, this was not my only training resource (I also used "A Cloud Guru" and "Linux Academy," both online video training sites). But what this book did do was give me the ability to sit down and read, at my own pace, and fill in the gaps inevitably left by the videos. YES, this book was written for the old interface. It doesn't mean you can't find anything on AWS now. In fact, if UI changes have completely derailed your study of the AWS CSA-A syllabus, then you're probably going to have trouble passing the exam anyway. It's not easy, even the Associate level. I am not a developer, I am a sysadmin. I will quickly become an obsolete dinosaur if I do not get up to speed on the "Dev" side of "DevOps", at least to a baseline degree of competency, and on the world's largest cloud platform.Amazon changes things on AWS at a frightening pace. No book ever published is going to be able to keep up with those changes. But the mechanics, the fundamentals, the underlying frameworks, are still the same. This book will teach you those. I highly recommend you also use a video training course. The video courses I used are for the 2017 exam - and you will never be tested on the UI itself. Having trained for the 2017 exam, I also agreed to take a beta exam (because it was 50% off) when registering on WebAssessor. The exam I took was 80 questions, instead of 60, and included questions on Kinesis, as well as making a clear distinction between NAT Gateways and NAT instances. Lots of VPC questions, lots of EC2, lots of RDS.Bottom line - don't rely on only a single source for study, especially on a platform as vast and complex as AWS. I became very frustrated a few days before my exam. Frankly, I didn't expect to pass. It didn't help that the staff at the Kryterion testing center had never given an Amazon exam before and I saw them refer to handwritten notes repeatedly (!!). You will not receive any sort of hardcopy confirmation that you passed from the testing center, so if they're not really sure what they're doing, stick around and make sure it gets submitted properly. I had an email from Kryterion waiting on me when I arrived home with a PDF of my certificate and the Certified AWS logos you're entitled to use once you pass. I don't even know if I'll receive a paper certificate in the mail! But if you study hard and you do the labs, you can pass. I'm living proof of that.Outdated. Missing critical info. I took the exam today. It asked me questions about ECS which is not covered at all in this book. It asked me detailed questions about API Gateway, which receives a one-paragraph overview in this book. This book _did_ include a section on the type of fire alarms and smoke detectors used at AWS data centers which, as you can guess, was not included in the test. I feel like this book could have been better.Excellent study guide for Amazon web services This guidebook provides great descriptions of the Amazon web services and how they work. The book is meant for passing the Associate Exam for Amazon web services, but it also working as a learning resource for AWS. I bought the book just to learn more rather than take the test, and I was pleased with the content of the book. There are quizzes at the end of each chapter which are fairly challenging. You have to read the chapter very carefully to get all the answers correct. Chapters start on basic AWS services such as EC2 and S3, and the book logically progresses to newer more complicated services. The last chapter focuses on best practices.Language in the book is direct and well written. The book does not feel like it has 7 authors as transitions are seamless from chapter to chapter. I learned a good deal about how the services work. The balance was reasonable between text and diagrams of architecture.Overall, I would recommend this book if you are studying for the exam, or if you are just looking to learn more about AWS.
